“Ng’ona”

Crocodile in Chichewa (the national language of Malawi)

Ng’ona Lodge is an oasis in the African bush.
We offer accommodation of a high standard, a campsite with barbeque facilities, and can arrange game drives and other activities
in Majete Game Reserve.

Situated on the banks of the Shire River, it is common to see crocs sunbathing on the sand banks and rocks below the rapids.
These are the same rapids where David Livingstone had to dismantle his boat to continue his exploration of the African interior.

The lodge is owned and was started by Monika and Gerhard, both Austrian by nationality and living in Malawi since 1992.

The original site was called “Majete Safari Camp” and was owned by the Marshall family, who left Malawi years ago.
Having known the camp during Marshall’s time, Monika and Gerhard took on the challenge when the site was up for sale.

Our pride is our panorama swimming pool, ideal for cooling off and relaxing.

The friendly and helpful staff are from the nearby village. They are offered fair working conditions and generally looked after well.

Monika uses her expertise in cooking to offer guests a variety of delicious dishes.

Unfortunately Gerhard succumbed to cancer in May 2013, but continues to live on in the hearts of his family,
many friends and staff of Ng'ona. His flair for design and quality is visible in many details around the camp.

Monika now carries on their dream of the “Lodge in the African bush” on her own.
